Greek referendum outcome

Churchill: ‘’The Germans need to be bombed every 30 years, they know why’’.

Yesterday must have been the 60th anniversary because Germany just got bombed big time. It took long enough but it was worth the wait. Greece just made a triumphant stand against global capitalism.

‘‘Yes’ is a plate of food covered in poison, and ‘No’ is an empty plate. We shall vote ‘No’ because one day, we just might fill that plate.’’

It is astounding how much you can learn from sitting in the Vassara Square on referendum night. As soon as the news of Samaras’ resignation was out, two new beers arrived at the table to drink to the ‘good news’.

Right, where to start? So, before the referendum, a poll was done, about what people thought they were voting about. It turned out that 40% of the Greeks asked thought that they were voting on the currency, ‘Yes’ being the euro and ‘No’ being the drachma. But what I also heard was that the EU actually doesn’t have laws for members leaving. They would literally need to write new laws, which would take at least 6 months, for Greece to be able to leave the euro, which the government have clearly stated many times that they definitely don’t want to do. So the whole idea of leaving the euro if a ‘No’ vote was the outcome, that I actually thought was the case, was just scaremongering by the EU and the Greek press - spreading fear among the whole population. And as Mr. Varoufakis pointed out, ‘‘what is spreading fear throughout the whole population? Oh yes, terrorism.’’

About a week ago, Merkel made a statement that Greece is offered 35 billion every year to invest in business, which it doesn’t take. But, after researching into the truth, ‘The Guardian’ revealed that every country in the EU is entitled to this money, but they need to pay 15%, or in this case 5 billion to trigger it. So Merkel knows well that Greece can’t get that money, because they don’t have the 5 billion to trigger it.

Also, a few weeks ago, there was a letter signed by all of Europe’s finance ministers that stated that if Greece agreed to all the EU’s conditions, meaning living in the same poverty as they have been for the last 5 years, by 2030 they still would not be out of the crisis. This signed letter fell into the supposedly ‘wrong’ hands, and ended up being printed in the Guardian. So another 15 years of poverty imposed by another country would still not solve the problems?

Varoufakis said a few days ago, that the banks closing were not necessary, it was imposed by the European Central Bank, to inflict fear in the whole Greek people. And again, ‘‘what is spreading fear throughout the whole population? Oh yes, terrorism.’’

Even after this whole fiasco, you forget that the Greek church could actually stop the whole crisis, just giving a bit more that half of their money to the Greek government to pay off the debt. Makes me sick.

Now let’s just hope that Greece can sort everything out before the Spanish elections, and inspire Podemos to ‘do a Syriza’.
